Olympic Peninsula Paddlers (OPP) is a club for sea kayakers, white water paddlers, rafters, canoeists, and those using any other paddle-powered watercraft. We are a diverse group united by our love of paddling. Our membership ranges from people just beginning in the sport to experts in Greenland-style rolling and in surf kayaking, from members looking to purchase their first boat to those who have built their own stitch-and-glue or skin-on-frame kayak.
We hold monthly club meetings from September through June. We have monthly club paddles each month of the year except December, when we have our club Christmas party. Monthly pool sessions occur eight times a year, to practice skills or learn new ones. One group of our membership paddles Port Angeles Harbor early every Friday morning, and another enjoys paddles across the Olympic Peninsula each Monday.
Joining OPP offers you the opportunity to network with other paddlers with similar interests, to learn more about paddling through clinics and workshops, to take advantage of discounts at local paddling stores, and to participate in fun events like club paddles, potlucks, and more. OPP’s website provides a calendar of events, trip reports, a photo gallery, and handy website links. If you are interested in joining OPP, please go to our Membership Information page.
The next club meeting will be September 10th: the annual potluck and gear swap!
Don’t miss the September 10th meeting for the annual potluck and gear swap, starting at 6pm. Bring a favorite salad, entré or dessert. Bring your own drinks (non-alcoholic). Paper plates, plastic cups and utensils will be provided. We have such wonderful cooks in the club, this should prove to be a tasty evening.
Remember to bring your checkbook or cash. This is your chance to pay dues for the upcoming year.
Also, we have new members and long standing members who would love to either buy or sell some extra kayaking gear. Everything from kayaks to tow ropes will attract attention.
The meeting is at the Vern Burton Community Center at S Peabody and E 4th in Port Angeles. We will be starting earlier since it’s a potluck: 6:00 to 7:00 pm. So be sure not to miss this fun get together.
